Things to do for free in London

Like any big city, London can be expensive. So, it’s good to know that London is also a city filled with a vast array of activities that are absolutely free!
Here’s our LUMA Concept Hotel London guide to free things to do around London.

  1. Parks

If you’re looking for somewhere to hang out near LUMA Concept Hotel London, why not take a stroll to Ravenscourt Park? It’s beautiful, it’s green, and it’s everything you could want in a local park. Pack yourself a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

Hyde Park meanwhile is one of London’s largest and most famous parks. A short hop on the tube from LUMA Concept Hotel London, it’s home to several icons of English heritage and has its roots anchored in royalty, regality and all things quintessentially English.

  1. Museums

Several of London’s museums have free entry. If you’re looking for a little cultural enlightenment, look no further than the British Museum, Design Museum, Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum… and many, many more free entry establishments.

  1. Markets

You don’t have to actually buy anything at one of London’s vibrant markets to enjoy them. Shepherd’s Bush Market, for example, is a wonderful place to explore. With all sorts of exciting stalls and bustling crowds, it’s fabulous for people-watching and soaking up some real London street life.

  1. Speakers’ Corner

Speakers’ Corner is the home of soapbox oratory; any person from any walk of life can step up and express their views on any topic to the assembled masses. People gather to think, listen, debate, argue… it’s as entertaining as it is inspiring.  Located just opposite Marble Arch tube station, Speakers’ Corner is a fascinating emblem of freedom of speech.

  1. Trafalgar Square

The iconic London location. This square is the biggest jewel in London’s crown. Yes, we know, this is the place everyone tells you to go… but there are several good reasons why. Trafalgar Square is adorned with beautiful statues, is surrounded by famous art galleries (also free) and magnificent churches, and most central London attractions are only moments away.

And, of course, it’s totally free.

  1. River Thames

Take a scenic walk along the beautiful River Thames, the longest river in all of England. It’s particularly peaceful as it snakes towards Hammersmith from Kew Gardens just upstream. Views like these are priceless.

  1. Quirky adventures

For something different, why not check out Europe’s largest collection of vintage neon signs at God’s Own Junkyard.

Are you a fan of Harry Potter? Check out this magical gallery of movie artwork hidden in London’s West End – the House of MinaLima in Greek Street, Soho.

If you’re craving something a bit more strange and wonderful, the Grant Museum of Zoology may the perfect place for you. Be witness to one of the largest (and slightly odd) Victorian collections of wildlife specimens in London.
